What are crescent rolls?
Crescent rolls, also known as crescent bread, are bread rolls in a shape similar to a crescent moon. The outer layer is crispy and the inside is soft, full of the aroma of cream.
It is an indispensable part of French people's daily lives. It is usually enjoyed with coffee and is very suitable for breakfast and afternoon tea.
Ingredients Needed
High-gluten flour: As the basis of the dough, it provides structure and support, giving the crescent rolls elasticity and chewiness.
White sugar: Increases sweetness and at the same time helps yeast grow during fermentation, making the dough expand.
Yeast: Responsible for fermenting the dough, making it expand, increasing volume and softness.
Salt: Enhances the overall flavor of the dough, balances sweetness, and at the same time strengthens the formation of gluten.
Warm milk: As a liquid ingredient, it helps form the dough and at the same time provides the sweet flavor of milk.
Egg: Increases the stickiness and nutritional value of the dough. At the same time, it makes the surface golden during baking, increasing the aesthetic appeal.
Butter: Increases the aroma and taste of the dough, making the crust of the crescent rolls more crispy.
White sesame seeds: Increases the aroma and taste of the crescent rolls and at the same time makes the appearance more attractive.
Essential Tools
Air fryer: The core tool that provides a high-temperature environment to make the crust of the crescent rolls crispy while keeping the inside soft.
Mixing bowl: Provides a container for mixing materials. A larger basin can be used instead.
Board: It is the operating platform for kneading the dough. A clean tabletop can also be substituted.
Plastic wrap: Used during the fermentation and secondary fermentation of the dough. A damp cloth can also play a similar role.
Brush: Used to brush egg liquid on the surface of the crescent rolls. The back of a clean small spoon can also be substituted.
Gloves: Avoid adhesion between the hands and the dough to ensure a smooth operation process.
Baking paper: Prevents adhesion and simplifies the cleaning process.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Accurate ingredients: Ingredients need to be accurately weighed according to the recipe, especially yeast and salt. If these two are not added correctly, all the taste will be wasted.
Knead the dough well: The dough should be kneaded to be smooth and elastic. Otherwise, the crescent rolls cannot take shape.
Moderate fermentation: Be sure to pay attention to time and temperature. Fermenting to twice the size is just right. If it is too long, it will be sour. If it is too short, it will not be fluffy.
Beautiful shaping: Roll it tightly and make the shape even. Loose or deformed is not acceptable.
Precise baking: Adjust the baking temperature and time properly. If it is too high, it will be burnt outside and raw inside. If it is too low, it will be soft and shapeless. Be careful.
